Info

Eliphas Levi (born February 8th, 1810; died May 31st, 1875) was a French ceremonial magician best known for creating the often misunderstood "Sabbatic Goat" illustration. He was also known for his creation of hundreds of different illustrations and occult symbols over his career and his interpretations of Kabbalah, all while being an avid writer of books on these subjects.

Interpretations of Kabbalah and Magick

His interest in the Occult, particularly the Kabbalah, came to a head after the divorce of his wife and his first encounter with an astronomer named Hoene Wronski. The basis for his belief was the concept that a universal key or "doctrine" to all innate mystical knowledge could be found universally across many ancient cultures. He split up magick into three parts: Astral Light, the Will (similar to Aleister Crowley's doctrine), and Imagination.
